Coding 101

Coding Languages

Coding languages have no words or alphabets.
Coding languages contain abbreviations and symbols that define ways of arranging text.
Coding languages are used to write software.
Every coding language is different and designed for a specific operating system, platform, coding style and use.

A coder does not need to learn all languages to be a good coder.
Most coders specialize in just one or a few languages.


JavaScript was created in 1995 and is the most used coding language in the world.

Python was created in 1991 by Guido van Rossum. It emphasizes code readability, and is mainly used to write scientific and numerical software.
Google uses Python.

SQL, which stands for Structured Query Language, was created in 1974 to interact with databases.
WordPress and MediaWiki use SLQ.

PHP was created in 1995 by Rasmus Lerdorf to produce dynamic web pages and can link website content database with the HTML that lets you view it.
PHP’s platform is the web server.
Facebook, WordPress and Wikipedia use PHP.

Ruby was created in 1995 by Yukihiro Matsumoto was created for coders and is used as an alternative to PHP. It became popular on the web through Ruby on Rails framework.
 Twitter uses Ruby.

C was created in 1972 as an all-round coding language that is the lowest level of all the languages but powerful and built into almost every operating system.
Microsoft Windows uses C.



C++ was created in 1979 by Bjarne Stroustrup and adds the object-oriented paradigm that runs on multiple hardware platforms.
Microsoft Windows uses C++ and most computer games are written in C++.

C Sharp was created in 2000 by Microsoft and is used extensively in its .NET framework and runs on Windows only.
Windows software and Microsoft's ASP.NET use C Sharp

Visual Basic was created in 1991 by Microsoft to respond to user events such as mouse clicks or key presses and its platform is Windows.
Windows uses Visual Basic ias an easy way to develop graphical user interface programs.

Java was created in 1995 by
Oracle Corporation for cross-platform compatibility and runs on almost any operating system. Java is the most common language computer science courses, and most coders have some experience with it.
Android apps are created using Java.

Objective-C was created by Apple in 1983 to be used in conjunction with the Cocoa framework and runs only on Apple operating systems.
 Software for iPhone, iPad and Mac OS X are created using Objective-C

Perl was created in 1987 by Larry Wall for text processing. Known as 'the duct tape that holds the Internet together', has been used extensively on the web.
